Kaitlyn Cook’s First MMI Mission Experience: A Journey of Sight & Service
This summer, from July 19- August 2, 2025, Kaitlyn Cook embarked on her very first Medical Ministry International project in Peru. A fourth-year nursing student, Kaitlyn joined the ophthalmology unit where she assisted patients alongside MMI’s dedicated medical professionals.
Reflecting on her time in Peru, Kaitlyn described the mission as “an eye-opening experience.” She witnessed lives being transformed as patients suffering from cataracts and other vision challenges received care that restored or improved their sight. For many, this meant the ability to see clearly for the first time in years.
Beyond the medical impact, Kaitlyn emphasized the personal connections she built throughout the journey. She formed lasting friendships with both team members and those served in the community, noting how the spirit of compassion and service was evident in every interaction.
Kaitlyn also shared how the mission deepened her perspective on faith and service. “It wasn’t just about providing physical healing,” she reflected, “but also about showing Christ’s love in action.”
With her first mission experience behind her, Kaitlyn is already looking forward to joining another MMI project in the future. Her story is a reminder of the difference one person can make and how, through MMI, volunteers can touch lives while being transformed themselves.
