NEWSFLASH! MMI brings Japanese technology to Mich.; New facility in Midland will create 30 jobs
Sept. 27, 2011
(MIDLAND, Mich.) -
A Japanese company has developed a method to turn shredded paper into a stronger, greener paper-plastic composite, and Michigan Molecular Institute is helping to bring the technology - along with 30 new jobs - to the United States.
Tokyo-based ECO Research Institute (ERI) has developed a process that can grind shredded office paper to the micron size range; that recyclate is then used as a filler in thermoplastics.
Dr. James Plonka, President and CEO of MMI, said the ERI/MMI partnership has led to the formation of Eco Bio Plastics Midland, Inc., which will implement the micro-ground paper-plastic composite technology at a new facility to be built in Midland. Groundbreaking is expected to happen before year’s end. (MORE)
